Drop it like its Hot
The idols weren’t just statues. They were patterns.
They were habits. They were distractions.
God called them repulsive.
And the hardest part? The people didn’t even realize they were sick.
🌾 The Seed
“My people consult their wooden idol… for a spirit of harlotry has led them astray, and they have played the harlot, departing from their God.” — Hosea 4:12
You can’t follow God with your hands full of idols.
You’ve got to put it down.
📖 The Word
Isaiah 44:19 says:
“Then I make the rest into a repulsive thing—should I bow down to a block of wood?”
Jeremiah 2:27 says:
“They have turned their backs to Me and not their faces, but in their time of trouble they say, ‘Arise, O Lord, and save us.’”
It’s not just about worship. It’s about what has your attention.
🧠 The Shift
Studies in cognitive dissonance show that when people are confronted with a truth that contradicts their deeply held habits, they either double down or break free.
Asking the Holy Spirit to expose our idols engages our prefrontal cortex (the decision-maker), helping us choose alignment over autopilot.

🛠 The Build
Ask the Holy Spirit:
“Is this an idol?”
“Is this keeping me from hearing You?”
Then listen.
And put it down.
Even if it’s hard. Especially if it’s hard.
🔊 The Speak
“I put down what doesn’t honor God. I turn my face toward Him. I want what He wants—even when it costs me comfort.”
